Fursuit CARE
So that your can enjoy your new fursuit for longer, here is some information on how to best clean and maintain your fursuit.
Maintenance and Cleaning:
Getting Into Fursuit:
Underneath your fursuit I’d recommend wearing a balaclava and a thin, long sleeved shirt, and leggings. This way, less sweat will get into the fursuit with each wear, which helps increase the life of the fursuit and makes washing easier.
Make sure to stay hydrated. If you feel like you need to take the head off, please do, regardless of if people are around or not. Safety is top priority and fursuiting is physically strenuous.
Maintenance and Cleaning:
- The most important thing is that you should NEVER USE HEAT. Faux fur is plastic, and will melt with heat. A lot of the base is held together with hot glue, and you don’t want that to melt. When using water, make sure it’s always cold and try not to leave your fursuit in a hot car.
- Store your fursuit in a cool, dry area. Heat and pressure will crease the fur fibres, so be careful not to crush your fursuit long term.
- Remember to gently brush your fursuit before and after wearing it, to keep it looking its best. A slicker brush is a good choice. Be gentle as any fur that gets brushed out won't grow back.
- To quickly disinfect any part, spray the inside with either fursuit spray, or isopropyl alcohol diluted with water. Try to avoid spraying the eyes. Make sure it’s completely dry before storing or wearing. You can also spot clean any fur on the fursuit with a little gentle detergent and water on a cloth, then going over it with a cloth with just water.
- Bodysuits, sleeves and hands can go in the washing machine. Turn the part inside out first, and remove any stuffing. Use a cold, gentle wash and liquid detergent. Hang the suit up indoors to dry.
